Several years ago, after having just closed on a house, Josh Ferrin decided to take a tour of his new property. After probing in the attic, he found $45 thousand dollars in wadded up bills and after some conversation, he and his wife decided to give it all back to the previous homeowner's children. What would you do if you stumbled upon some money? For Josh Ferrin, finding 45 thousand dollars in cash was the easy part. The tougher task was deciding what he should do with it. Several years ago, after having just closed on a house, Ferrin decided to take a tour of his new property. He was in the garage when he discovered an attic, so he crawled up to explore that, too. What he found inside were 8 boxes of wadded-up cash that added up to 45 thousand dollars. He spent some time fantasizing about home remodels and car repairs and then called his wife. She advised he contact the previous owners, and, spending dreams aside, he knew that that was the right thing to do. After his chat with the people who had sold him the house, Ferrin put some facts together and realized the previous owner, since dead, had likely been stashing the money away for decades. Tough though it was, he gave the money to the man’s children.Ferrin said that the greatest benefit of his decision is showing his own children what it means to do the right thing.
