Over one hundred sacred relics of incalculable value have been returned to Cyprus four decades after their were looted during the Turkish invasion in 1974.A total of 173 icons, mosaics and frescos created between the 11th and 19th century only form a small part of the 20,000 orthodox pieces, the majority icons, which are considered to have been taken from the island illegally after the northern part of the Mediterranean island was invaded by the Turkish army.According to the director of Nicosia's Byzantine Museum, Ioannis Iliados, the relics, after an investigation by Interpol and German authorities, were found in Munich in 1997 at the home of a Turkish art dealer.Powered by Producer : EFE
