Lionel Messi and his father have been living in Spain since 2000 and became citizens of the country in 2005. The pair allegedly failed to report a total of $5.25 million between 2006 and 2009. When learning that they would face possible jail time, father and son forked over the corrective payment last month in Barcelona. Messi, a four-time world soccer player of the year explained the tax evasion by saying, "I never take care of that stuff myself and neither does my father. We have our lawyers and our wealth managers to take care of that and we trust them and they will sort this out. The truth is that I don't have a clue about all this and that is why we have people taking care of it."
