Autistic Man Survives 3 Weeks in Wilderness - as part of the news series by GeoBeats.Rescue workers found a man who had been lost in the Escalante Desert of Utah for 3 weeks. He barely survived by eating frogs and roots and drinking water from the Escalante River, which he was hiking next to. What makes the story even more amazing is that the 28 year old Colorado Springs native is autistic, which actually may have helped lead to his miraculous survival, because people who have autism are drawn to bodies of water. He was rescued by helicopter when a search party was flying over the river looking for him. Regarding the area where the man was lost, Becki Bronson, spokesperson for the sheriff’s department told the Los Angeles Times:“It’s a place where they hold outdoor survival classes, a mixture of jagged lava rock and slippery sandstone, heavy sagebrush and juniper trees, desert terrain marked by sheer cliffs. This is some of the most unforgiving terrain you will find anywhere on Earth. Where he was – there just isn’t anyone out there.” What’s the best rescue story you’ve heard about recently?
