But how do we feel when it happens to a large businesses?Comcast Corporation, the internet and cable giant has been scammed out of an estimated $2.4 million by a group of criminals. From April 2011 to April 2012, a group of more than 20 people allegedly sold discounted cable service in exchange for a $150 upfront fee. More than 5,000 customers paid for the low-priced services and premium channels after being approached by the accused in various public places. According to Philadelphia Inquirer- “The scamsters accessed the system by using the computer identification of a Comcast employee on disability, one who had been discharged, and others who were taking days off."Officials claim that Comcast learned of the illegal scam when a knowledgeable employee was offered a discounted package. Thus far, five from the ring have been charged and police are searching for 18 other individuals. Earlier this year, another company was the target of a scammer. A Georgia woman tried to profit $9,000 by having Verizon employees declare they had volunteered at her charity. Verizon rewards their workers' volunteerism by donating up to $750 per employee to the charity.
