Good Growing Link is a web-based community and sustainability “toolbox” that aggregates and analyzes production data to create a profile tailored to customer’s requirements. It allows a farmer to share the story of the crops he or she is growing.

Brian Hurdka, Food Chain Manager for Bayer CropScience, tells Brownfield the interest in sustainability is on the rise at the consumer, grocery and at the food service level.

“A lot of our growers are looking for a tool to help them tell their sustainability story,” said Hurdka. “We have a great story to tell in agriculture.”

The Good Growing Link allows a farmer to create a sustainability report customized for their customers. That report can include a comprehensive set of metrics, but most growers start with less complex reporting and might focus on their efforts in energy consumption or water conservation.

Hurdka said it is important to remember that this report is scalable to fit the size of farm you have and to suit the customers you are trying to reach.
