Fresh off winning their 7th consecutive district championship, the Longview Lobos entered the 2010 5A Division II playoffs with a new sense of hope. A rough schedule sent the Lobos into the post season with a 6-4 record, their worst since 2000. With high expectations and fresh off three consecutive trips to at least the State Quarterfinals, the Lobos looked to shock everyone this season but going back there again. Their first task was a Kincaide Stadium showdown with the Belton Tigers and Rodney Southern. Longview fans were definitely familiar with Southern as he coached at long time rival Marshall. And just like in those games against the Mavericks, the Lobos would walk away with the victory. Longview jumped out to a 24-7 halftime lead, and held on for a 52-28 victory. The Lobos advanced to the Area Round of the 5A Division II Region II playoffs with the win.
