On Friday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided the office of Kalaignar TV, run by the family members of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, in Chennai, in connection with the 2G spectrum case. But the channel claims that it had no any links with this scam. Both the company officials and the CBI remained silent on the issue.

A report says that the bureau has also raided the office and residence of the managing director of Kalaignar TV, Sharad Kumar. According to the reports, the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate are trying to collect evidences regarding a loan of Rs. 214 crore that was arranged by DB Reality group to Kalaignar TV. The DB Reality group is promoted by Shahid Usman Balwa.

According to CBI, Shahid Balwa was allegedly favoured by the former telecom minister A Raja in grant of UAS license and scarce radio waves. The wife of DMK chief Karunanidhi, M K Dayalu owns 60% stake in Kalaignar whereas party MP Kanimozhi has 20%. The CBI earlier told, “It has come to light that there was a transaction of Rs 214 crore from M/s Cineyug Films private limited to Kalaignar TV in 2009.”

Sharad Kumar, the MD of Kalaignar TV had denied receiving pay-offs form DB Realty. Sharad Kumar said, “All these transactions took place with the knowledge of the Income Tax Department officials and the relevant taxes (with respect to the transactions) have also been paid. Since the whole process has been carried out within the confines of the law, this process is an open book.”
