Hopefully, I’ll have more to say as the day goes on. Kind of busy this morning. The NFL has been somewhat of a head scratcher. I think that the Baltimore Ravens and the New York Jets have played the most consistent football of the year so far. Both teams have stout defenses. Both teams have shown periods of brilliance on offense. In my mind, they’re the two best teams in the NFL.

The St. Louis Rams, Arizona Cardinals, Detroit Lions, Oakland Raiders and Buffalo Bills are all milling around at the bottom of the league. The one thing that they all have in common is mediocre quarterback play. The St. Louis Rams are high on their rookie Sam Bradford. The jury is still out. All these teams are rebuilding. At least, I hope so.

Then there are teams like the Minnesota Vikings, the Dallas Cowboys, the New Orleans Saints, the San Diego Chargers and the New York Giants. All of these teams look great on paper. Yet, when it comes to the field, they look average to awful. They are all marred by inconsistent play by both their offensive and defensive lines. Their quarterbacks have looked brilliant (with the exception of Brett Favre) at times. Unfortunately, in the NFL, quarterback play may be the most important determinant to how well your team does. The quarterback for each of these teams needs to be more consistent.

More later. What did you think about week five?
